As alarming as the concept may be, a music video for the song "Jesus Was No Commando" is currently in the works. Kids come and kids go, but film is forever.
A Winter tour will be happening in mid-January, but the participation of a drummer is unknown. Check Asbestoscurescancer.com for more information as it becomes available. The December 17th show was successful in raising funds for homeless shelters in Baltimore County. We would like to thank I Am Unanimous!, Chasing Scarlet, Marlana and Billy, and Kabob-A-Taj for performing.

That Video We Promised You Like Four Months Ago?

Yea. We posted it. So what if it wasn't on time? So what if it's no where near as good as we told you it was? So what if Erik's completely naked body is clearly visible in 5 second segments throughout the clip? We think that each of these things only make the video better.

Anyway... Here it is, Asbestos interviewed etc. in Chapel Hill, NC.

If you stick around, you will see us playing Jesus Was No Commando while the legendary "Pussy Jump Lady" enjoys Drew's drumming from outside.

Now onto other news. We have decided that after we release "Life Incorporated" (wasn't that supposed to be at the end of 2008?) we will be releasing "Life Incorporated"... Oh, but it's on DVD... Oh, and everything will be in surround sound. WHAT?!?!?!? SURROUND SOUND?!?!?!? That's right mother babies (thanks for that phrase Mason Summers), surround sound.

What does Asbestos sound like in surround sound? I don't know... Amazing? Sexy? Orgasmic? Delicious? Orange? Banana? Probably all of these things.

Most DVDs also contain video. This is a fact.

"Life Incorporated" will not. How ever "Life Incorporated" will indeed be accompanied by a visual depiction of the album similar to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" or The Beatles "Yellow Submarine"... Except not really like "Yellow Submarine."

Contradictions and round about logic aside, this CD/DVD combo will be the best CD/DVD combo ever. Or at least in the top ten (ok, one more contradiction). Although there are only a few of those anyway... (no really, last one).

After returning from touring in June, we were bombarded by needing to sleep, jobs, little bit of laziness, and a lot of not posting blogs. BUT NOW! We will do just that.

On June 23rd, we set out on tour. Our first stop, Charlottesville, VA for some sleeping. Rolling Stone called it "The best sleep you could possibly get in a 110 degree room with rush hour traffic 20 feet from your head." In the morning, we set out to Chapel Hill, NC where we would be staying that night (yes that's right, we knew where we were sleeping EVERY NIGHT this tour). After getting a key, and being told going to Eden, NC was a bad idea, we went to Eden, NC to play the first show of the tour.

What we did know, is that Eden was a small town in the middle of nowhere. What we didn't know, is that Eden was an abandoned mall and a Sheetz with gas for $2.47/gallon.

The next morning, we ate an unlimited amount of pancakes at IHOP, then went to Home Depot, where we met the most epic man in the world (sounded exactly like the horror movie preview guy) and had a conversation about the uselessness of the Dugong.

The best decision in the world was buying a green sign at target upon which we wrote "Rock Show Tonight, Jack Sprat Cafe, 10 or 11 PM, Probably Free." From 7 o'clock until downbeat, we harassed citizens of Chapel Hill, NC with our sign, loud announcements, and pre-recorded air horn. (awaiting video)

We played the show and even entertained a couple outside the venue. They were dancing and having a great time, especially during Destroy the Wall. After the concert, they asked for the drummer's signature and upon receiving it, the female confided in him that he "made [her] pussy jump" to which he replied "I didn't know those moved."

After our anatomy lesson, we returned to our temporary residence to sleep. In the morning, we set out to Chesapeake, VA. We first needed to try North Carolina's gift to man kind, "Biscuitville," a fast food breakfast restaurant that served every meal avaiable on a biscuit (southern biscuits too, none of this "low fat, you won't have a heart attack tomorrow" bullshit).

After a minor hotel faux pas, we headed over to Winston's Cafe. A hitch hiker asked for a ride to some place in town that we knew nothing about. We replied that WE could barely fit in our car, to which he replied "BITCHES ALWAYS TALKIN' 'BOUT HOW THEY GON' GET RAPED! BU' DEY CAN' EVEN GET A FREE TICKET T' HELL! DEVIL SEE DEM COMIN', HE FIRE'N MISSLES AT THEM 'CAUSE DEY SO UGLEH! GIMME RIDE." So we didn't.

After playing, we hung out with some kool locals, Kristen and Gene, and a drug addict who forgot her name. We headed back to our hotel room and proceeded to sleep less than we should have. In the morning, we went to Asheville, NC to stay with a friend. The 7 hour drive just flew by (walked by at a moderate pace)! Once Panera was consumed, and stories were told around the campfire (interesting IKEA lamp that does not resemble a fire at all) it was bed time.

Taco Bell and Subway was the breakfast of champions on June 28th. We made our way through two mountains, a 15 mile drive which took an hour. We arrived at The Ultimate Basement, where we met David, one of the nicest venue owners on the planet. He did everything he could to make our show a success, and we had our first official marque:

Once we had stopped playing, we had to walk at a moderate pace (fly) back to Baltimore by 9 am. As is Asbestos tradition, we arrived fashionably early, and those of us who did not have drug tests slept... hard.

Snow Bird Tour '010

OH TEN WHAT?! Screamed the class of 2010 as they graduated three months from now, but screamed Asbestos as well as we careened through the south this winter. For those of you who have been following along, we have kept you up to date from the time we left on Thursday January 7th at 2:37:24 (14:37:24 for our international homies) every step of the way. Except for Miami, which we strategically decided to tell you about now. It was good.

Fayettesville was also rocked rather severely. Our odd meters and V/ii sus 4 chords resolving to IV chords which make you CRAVE a V/N6 chord astonished AT LEAST [everyone]. We then continued to the luxurious Eriksdorm, Virginia where we were greeted by empty cans of Natty Light all up in our sleeping space. Not enough hours of sleep later, we set off for home where our return was hailed as "Almost as good as if Asbestos had come home from their 2nd annual Snow Bird Tour." -Baltimore [Sun]

ONE MORE SONG

was the cry uttered by the adoring crowd as we finished our set at the Wormhole in Savannah; and play one more song we did, rounding out the night with a stirring rendition of Nazi Punks Fuck Off*. The show turned out to be a considerable success, continuing the upward trend of greatness we have experienced on this this snowbird tour of ours. As one observer remarked about the show in Richmond ,"Well, they really have nowhere to go but up." This has turned out to be quite true. We would like to to thank Jesse, Marina and Megan for making the long trip down to see us play.
We are not finished, however, as we will be completing our excursion with a stop in Fayetteville, North Carolina. We anticipate that it will be nothing short of amazing.

Probably. But Bourbon Street has enough to choke a whale.

Although we started playing a few hours late, and the other bands never showed up, Rolling Stone still calls our New Orleans show "Better [than] Richmond."

For those of you who desire a play by play: After leaving Richmond, we left for Bluefield, WV and a show cancelled due to snow. The next day, we woke up and wondered to Boone, NC where nothing ever happens. Chattanooga the next day... Tacos. We had quite an adventure the next day, visiting Nashville and Memphis. We took in the cities for a few hours before heading to Sardis, Mississippi where we camped at John* Kyle* State Park. After New Orleans, we drove a few hours east to Biloxi, Mississippi where there is a very modern Motel 6... We're talking triangular shower-modern. Tonight we rest in Gainesville, FL. Thanks to all those who have offered us that famous Southern Hospitality, Patrick, Emily and Andrew, that one park ranger, and The Morris Family. With out you, we could never have made it this far.

Tomorrow, we set sail for Miami in the hopes of playing another good show and that Bobby doesn't eat all of our food before we get home.

But we call it working our asses off. Although we haven't seemed active, my dear Cleaver, we have been burning the midnight oil and the 3 AM oil to bring you Asbestos in ways would could never imagine.

This fall, we have been preparing to release our next album, but also, a pre-album EP or single which we are calling "Single, and Ready to Mingle." This EP will feature career spanning fan favorites as well as a few songs from the new double album (Life Incorporated/Music Is Words) which we expect will grab your attention:

More shows THAN YOUR BODY HAS ROOM FOR

Sometime while trying to find our venue in Detroit, the GPS, combined with heavy construction, directed us to the bridge onto Canada where the egg underwent a full cavity search at customs. Then, after returning, we went to the venue, didn't get shot or robbed, got to meet cool local bands, and heard a song about penetration. After driving through Toronto, where we got HUGE SAVINGS, and Niagara Falls, where we got wet, we returned to Baltimore for a day. Leaving B-mizzle, we went to Athens, GA and played for our biggest crowd this tour. We then made it to Savannah just in time to see the sunrise and sleep for a couple. After fulfilling Bobby's eating quota for the day we played at The Wormhole and had our fog machine cherry popped. Now, we are relaxing in Savannah and preparing to blow your face off in Towson on the 22nd.

Detroit Rock City? More like Detroit More Murders Than Baltimore City... City

Asbestos's show at Ronny's Bar in Chicago was called "The best Asbestos concert to ever take place in Chicago" (Steve "I know a lot about music" Richardson of the Chicago Tribune). After driving all day through states like Indiana, the self proclaimed "Crossroads of America" (No one comes to our state with a reason other than traveling to a neighboring state) we were quite amazed at our playing as well. In fact, leg cramps, sleep deprivation, Bobby eating all of our food, and smell aside, the road is treating us quite [well].

After camping in a rest area, we began our voyage to Muskegon to visit a friend, stopping in Grand Rapids to buy flannel, and get $16 for can return. We slept in the sketchiest (least expensive, most likely to give STDs through osmosis) motel we could find and headed to Detroit. We camped with Randy, a local who frequents Brighton Park and taught us to make things with glass bottles and fire.

Since this may be our last post (many people we've talked to think we will be robbed or die in Detroit) we will leave you with Erik's list of traveled states from most good to least good:

Here is a poem I am writing from a motor home in Dayton Ohio, one day before our Chicago show:

Boston was a blast,
the first night we camped in a parking lot,
it sure went by fast,
we met cool local bands that liked us a bunch,
sold a t-shirt, even.
Riding the T was a good way to see the city
Cambridge was quite pretty,
but we went the whole time without cleavin'.

After Ronny's in Chicago we're hitting Paychecks in Detroit then up to Toronto for a couple before we return to Baltimore for a day and then head South. I would say wish us luck, but we don't need it, we have looks.

For those who came to the 8x10 show, you enjoyed possibly our best set yet as well as FREE LYRIC SHEETS and Erik taking his pants off. Rolling stone called it "actually ok, and [it was well worth the money!]" For those of you who didn't go to the show, you should buy two tickets for our show this Sunday (July 19th) at the Sonar in order to make up for it. As I write this, we are rerecording the guitar part for Prohibition and then mixing the piss out of it for our new demos.

For those of you at the Talking Head show, you witnessed the debuts of "Into the Woods" and "Fairytale" as well as abounding shirtlessness. Aside from the sound guy (who texted throughout our set and cut it short), we enjoyed the venue and may be playing shows there in the future. Our next show is June 30th at the 8x10 as a part of the "five bands for five bucks" series which critics are calling "soundslavery" and "band exploitation," "bexploitation," or, if you will, "bandsploitation." We plan debuting "Killer's Mind" at this show as well as having our new demos with Bobby "Booby" "Tits" "Lactation Baloons" Canner on drums available.

Greetings from the back of the stage! Today is a milestone in Asbestos history as, after long last, the drummer has finally been allowed to make his mark on the cleavage fragment. This day will long be remembered in the annals of time, forever inspiring generations of drummers to make their voices heard. In other news, we will be playing at the Talking Head in Baltimore on May 31. Ball Buster Weekly is calling it “…the most [anticipated] concert of 2009...” In light of all the publicity, tickets are flying out of Drew’s pocket faster than a puppy out of a car window. DUN. That's right, Asbestos is throwing in the towel. In what Rolling Stone calls "a [tragedy] affecting the entire music industry" we have decided that the amazing music, great success and friends are too hard to keep up (hehe erection). The cock-block (unfuck) show

Our most recent show at The Recher was the opposite of fuck. One way to put it would be a cock-block, or for those less creative, an unfuck. "Cock-block?, isn't that like bad [bro]?" you may ask. Well, in most cases, yes, but this show was not most cases. You see, not only did we have success in every department (performance, demos, crowd) where previously only fuck could be found, but we also blocked that guy that used to sit in the back (now known as "cock") and replaced him with our new drummer Bobby (see previous CLEAV).
The most cock-block thing about the show was probably the new enthusiastic faces, mostly from UMBC, that Drew and Bobby brought in. It was great to see you all dancing, singing and moshing and we plan on seeing you at shows in the future!

Out with the old, in with the new (and much better)

So, as many have already heard, our drummer Nick Pula quit the band because, as he so eloquently stated in a text message, "I can't pretend to be interested anymore [and I hate good music as well as success and friends]." Drew and myself saw this as an opportunity to find a drummer that could read music and hold his own in a conversation. We found this and more in our new drummer Bobby Canner. Bobby has been working very hard with Drew at UMBC to learn our extensive library of material in time for our next show, and has learned the entire Introduction in the amount of time it took Nick to tune his toms.

The Fuck Show (slash) Success Through Failure

For several months we have been recording and mixing songs from our next album in the hopes of releasing a demo CD in time for our January 8th Recher show. Unfortunately, due to multiple computer rebellions (3), sleep deprivation (which was not pacified by 5 cups of tea), procrastination (just a little), and the alignment of the stars (where most of the responsibility lies) this did not happen. We expressed this inner anguish through the majesty of Erik's shirt, which simply, but eloquently, stated "Fuck."

However, the debut of the new song "Prohibition" was played well and received warmly by the members of the audience. As well as playing some "old" favorites, we revisited the recently debuted "Introduction" and "Perspective."
T-shirts are now on sale for $7 and flying off the box.

...and that is how we found success in the deep dark caverns of failure.

Sarcasm, Rambling, and Dry Humor

"NEW SONGS, NEW DEMO, SEXY BASS"

That and more are in reviews from the future about our January 8th show at The Recher Theater. We will be debuting a new song, "Prohibition," as well as giving a rough preview of "Life Incorporated" the next album which we hope to release by the end of 2009. "Sell-Out Police," "Destroy the Wall," and "Liability" will all be available on the free demo CD to be released after the new year.
As always, Erik will be shirtless, sweaty, and surrounded by men ready to be "up ons that."

On December 19th, we played Calvary Baptist with Jimmy Chrismer of I Am Unanimous and raised $185 for our cause. We debuted a new Introduction and the song "Perspective" as well as saying goodbye to the "Intro" which has served us well for two years. Fans enjoyed our new pins showing our new logo, motto, and symbol and the vicious fight over Erik's t-shirt which he generously donated to the crowd. These pins will be for sale at other shows in addition to the new Asbestos shirts inexplicably left out of the aforementioned future reviews. TIFKATI received massive "Nick-Related" injuries during the post show merriment and may be out of order until our agent believes he may be removed from the Disabled List... More developements to follow (probably not).

This past Friday's show at Calvary Baptist was our most successful yet with $250 raised for homeless shelters in Baltimore County. Thanks to the bands that played and to everyone that came to support us.
The drum and bass parts for Destroy the Wall and The Cop Theory have both been recorded, and guitar and vocal parts are soon to follow. There will also be trombones and flutes on top of a mountain.
As many of you have noticed, occasionally we make little adjustments to our songs to keep things interesting. Sometimes this works (Transient, Virginia) and other times Nick decides act like he's not a drummer and runs into the audience (Punk is Freedom). Well, it's the thought that counts.

Rolling Stone calls last week's show at the Brass Monkey Saloon "a masterful combination of guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and massive sex appeal" and goes further to say that it was "the [best] show ever." To sum up, great success!
The recording of Sell Out Police has been completed and will hitting demos near you sometime soon. Our other recoridng projects right now are Destroy the Wall and Jesus Was No Commando. Of the two, Destroy the Wall is much closer to completion.
Our next show will be Friday, October 17th, at Calvary Baptist. We will be playing with a few other bands, one of which is the Side [E]ffects. When I know more details I'll post them here.
Another important bulletin, last week on my way to Halethorpe, I broke the MARC train.

So far the drums, guitar, and vocals have been recorded for Destroy the Wall. All that we need is for me to come up from my Virginia paradise to record the bass and then of course last minute "flair" instruments and about a month of mixing. But don't worry, that month will probably fly by, or it won't. Also, as a reminder, tickets are on sale now for the Brass Monkey Saloon show. They are only $5 but there is probably a ricockulous coverage fee. It will be worth every penny though. You can get tickets from Drew or Nick or if you need a special delivery, contact one of us through Facebook.

Above is the final version of our new logo. It is not only readable, but also incredibly sexy and maybe even dazzling. Stickers featuring this logo are currently in production and tickets for our show will go on sale next week. The stickers will be $0.75 and car-worthy.

Sell Out Police is near completion, the only parts remaining to be recorded are the violin, flute, and vocals at the end. We are working on getting a sample of the final mix to play on the blog. Today we are announcing that we will be playing a show at the Brass Monkey Saloon on Saturday, September 20th. The Saloon is located in Fells Point. Aside: We're leaving Savannah tomorrow morning, if you would like to request a song for the September 20th set list let us know. We'll also commence recording plans for Destroy the Wall upon our arrival.

Productivity!

Today has been particularly productive. Somewhere between waking up at 1 and grilling we've managed to look at the mixer, shower and mess with video editing software. We also received the latest version of our new logo (shown above). We plan to use a logo similar to this on our new t-shirts. Let us know what you think. Great things will come from the video software in the near future, but for now all we can offer is this teaser trailer.†

Savannah Happenings

First off, thanks to everyone that came to the show on the 9th, we got a smaller crowd than expected, but the bands were great and we did raise $155 for meals for the homeless shelter.
Currently Drew and myself are in Savannah, GA riding in golf carts and finishing up the mixing of Sell Out Police. We probably aren't writing any new songs. The next song we plan on recording for the upcoming Life Incorporated is Destroy the Wall. Let us know if this is what is demanded.
In other news, on the ride down we both got sunburn on one arm from sticking it out the window. The results are shown above (Drew is hard at work mixing).

As Asbestos stretches to every corner of the vast infinitesimal interwebs, it is hard to skip over the large, loud corner that is the blog. With this blog we will provide yet another location to get Asbestos media, news, and music.
